Extremely rare! Dating within 200 years of the birth of the Prophet Mohammed, ca 700 AD. Large strip of textile woven in off-white linen with a repeating geometric band with the symbol for "Allah" in Arabic. 50"L x 4-1/2"W (most surviving examples generally measure a few small inches), in excellent condition. Ca. 7th-9th Century A.D., from the ancient Near East. Dark thick-walled glass, of globular form with disc-shaped foot with broken pontil; applied threading, short splayed neck with slightly everted rim. Areas of gorgeous iridescence. 2-3/8"H, intact, save heavy surface encrustation and minor rim chips.
