A choice Nicoya polychrome bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 1200 1500 AD. This lovely Pataky Polychrome example is 6-1/2 in diameter and is decorated with a series of five stylized jaguars, surrounded by a rim band of linear designs. The exterior is covered with panels of red and orange wash over cream slip. In excellent condition, with extensive dendrites and trails.
Hard to find this nice! From Costa Rica, ca 800 to 1000 AD, burnished brownware pottery jar with human face in relief; in corseted form, splayed foot with deep incised hatch-marks, very pleasant human face molded with twin "mat" symbols and surrounded with etched border. 7-1/2"H, intact and excellent.
A very fine stone metate and original mano from the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, on the Atlantic watershed, ca 300 to 700 AD. Large tripod grinding table carved extensively on all surfaces with mat symbols and braided patterns, original stone roller included. measures a nice 16" L by 8-1/2" W by 7" H and is intact and near-choice with carved areas a bit soft in areas from 1500 years of burial. An absolutely exquisite example of translucent jade! From ancient Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed, ca. 100 to 500 AD, in the form of a two-headed serpent. Each serpent head features long fangs, drilled eyes and patterned heads, large central hole in center for suspension. 3-3/8"L x 1"H, intact/in choice condition.
One of the finer examples of the type! Carved volcanic stone warrior from the Atlantic Watershed of Costa Rica, ca 500 to 1000 AD. Depicting a warrior coming back from a successful battle, left hand raised holding stone axe, right hand holds human trophy head, this in upside-down position. A marvelous Nicoya Polychrome tripod bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 800 - 1200 AD. This exceptional vessel is 6-1/2" in diameter and is elaborately decorated with two panels depicting finely detailed two-headed jaguars, separated by two panels representing the two-headed monster motif, an identifying characteristic of this type. A fine jadeite pendant from Costa Rica, ca. 500 BC 1000 AD. This thin "blade pendant is 3-3/4 long and is double perforated at the top for suspension. The dark green stone has a lovely calcified patina, evidencing water-borne mineral intrusion into the burial site. Nice example.
