Ancient Egyptian Ptolemaic Faience Wedjat Eye of Horus
This Wedjat measures 17 mm in length. Condition: Nice surface glaze intact, with one tiny chip on the reverse, which does not detract.

Dates to the Ptolemaic Period in Egyptian history, circa 332 BC.

The Wedjat is also known as the eye of Horus. Considered a potent and powerful symbol in ancient Egyptian culture and religion. It represents the eye of Horus, the Falcon who represented the Sun, and it served as a talisman for protection. Other benefits of it's power were thought to be strength and prosperity. Used primarily in funerary placement as well as in bodily decoration. The symbol was also used by the ancient Egyptians in mathematics to represent fractions.

Provenance provided to purchaser.
