ANCIENT BRONZE BRACELET, HITTITE: EX HEFLIN

From the estate of the world traveler, Dr. Allen Heflin, this heavy bronze bracelet (AXH230.73) was acquired in Turkey and attributed to the Hittite Empire, c.2nd Millennium BC. Measuring just shy of 3 ˝” in outside diameter, the heavy bronze bar is well patinated and sparsely coated with a patchy encrustation that can be at least partially flaked off with a finger nail. Both ends of the open bracelet are decorated with the head of an animal that has dragon like attributes. The faintest remnant of Heflin’s black notation “Turkey Oct 62 Hittite” can still be seen along the side of the bracelet. Another rare and documented piece from the Heflin collection, the bracelet could be worn today. It comes with a small display card, a copy of the memoriam to Heflin published in the Missouri Archaeological Society Quarterly, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
