| Each of the twelve prehistoric Native American artifacts in this group (CH1052A2&3; 1054E; 1055A2, A7, B2, D2, D3, & E; 1323C; and 1330) is from the estate of the late Carrol Howe, the well-known student and author of two popular books on the artifacts and lives of the ancient Modoc and Klamath Indians of soutwestern Oregon and northern California. Each of the artifacts, or lot of artifacts, has either been glued to its own descriptive card with soluble glue, or placed in a small Mylar bag and attached to its card with a staple. All of the lots except one were found at the site Carrol discovered and named Nightfire Island, located in Siskyou County, California. This inexpensive group includes shell beads, bone beads, a net spacer, dentalia, and a stone wedge. Each illustrated card has a brief description of the item with the approximate age of the artifact, its price, and finally a unique inventory number in the bottom corner. Select or ask any question by referring first to the six-digit Trocadero Item Number on this page, and then to our Inventory Number shown on the given photograph. Each artifact comes with a biographical sketch about Howe, a map of southern Oregon and northern California with the area where the artifact was found highlighted.
