A lovely Sassanian domed carnelian stamp seal measuring 0.85 cm in height, 0.94 cm wide and 1 cm thick. This seal was excavated in southern Mesopotamia and is dated ca. 3rd - 7th century AD. The bust of a male, possibly a god, is incised into the base and a drill-hole is present for stringing. The seal is in excellent condition and worldwide shipping is always free. Stamp seals were pressed into soft clay to leave an impression of the design. The clay was then used as a sealing device on shipping containers or door latches so it could be ascertained whether or not the contents had been tampered with. Early seals had one or more flat sides depicting designs. Later seals were "cylinder seals" in a form that could be rolled over the wet clay to produce a continuous image. Our Certificate of Authenticity with guarantee in included and worldwide shipping is always free. U.S. payments may be a personal check or money order made payable to: Passage to Antiquity P.O.
