A Byzantine bronze pendant cross discovered in the Balkan States and dated ca. 1000 AD, the Late Byzantine Period. The cross measures 3.4 cm and a folded bit of metal on the top forms the loop for suspension. The cross was hand made, not cast. There are no decorations on this quite different cross and the object is in excellent condition and completely wearable, The cross is a sacred emblem of the Christian faith and is a symbol of redemption, signifying Christ's death on the cross for man's sins. The use of the cross goes back to at least 100 AD. In the Byzantine Empire the ancient cultures of Greece and Roman were preserved and Christianity flourished.
