ISLAMIC OIL LAMP EX. ISRAEL - FREE SHIPPING
Holy Land terracotta teapot-style or Islamic-type oil lamp excavated in Israel and dated ca. 1000 AD, the Arab Period. The lamp measures 9.1 cm in length and 4.9 cm in height. The clay is a brown color and portions are covered with a light desert patina. The base is flat and there is a small chip on the rim. Shipping is free and the lamp is in excellent condition.

These teapot lamps were made in this form so as to extend burn time. A small receptacle like an egg or little terracotta vessel was filled with oil and placed on top of the lamp so that the oil would slowly drip into the lamp. Aside from being very essential household items these lamps were also frequently utilized as funerary objects.
