A nice Egyptian faience ushabti excavated in Egypt and dated to the 26th Dynasty, 664 - 525 BC of the Late Dynastic Period, also called the Saite Period. The ushabti measures 8.75 cm and most of the original blue-green glaze may still be seen. The arms are crossed over the chest and the right hand holds a hoe and the left hand has a pick. There is a seed-bag over the left shoulder and a back-pillar. The figure stands on a trapezoid base and this ushabti is in excellent condition. Shipping is free. Ushabtis were placed in Egyptian tombs with the mummy and were meant to magically come alive in the afterlife and do menial and/or unpleasant tasks for the deceased. Ushabtis were made of wood, stone or terracotta but most were made of faience. Faience is an inexpensive ceramic paste made from crushed quartz and is thought to be a forerunner of glass. The process was known from before 3000 BC and the recipe was a closely guarded secret. Our Certificate of Authenticity with guarantee is included and worldwide shipping is always free.
