| Relics of the Nile is very pleased to present this superb ancient Egyptian panel. This panel comes from a late period canopic box or Ptah-Sokar-Osiris shrine and still displays tremendous color and design. The panel is highlighted in brilliant white, blue, red, yellow, and brown. This piece comes from the side of the canopic or ushabti box originally created in shrine form. The front of the piece depicts a geometric design that was favored in the late period - Ptolemaic period and forms a sort of ancient checkerboard pattern. Unlike some of the standard checkerboard designs, this pattern connects the squares with a lined crossing pattern with circles centering each of the white boxes. The design remains clear with little wear due to age, and the piece overall remains in excellent condition. The panel still shows a very nice color and significant portions of the original gesso on the reverse as well as the original dowels on the sides. The panel also has the original linen on the back with the gesso, which may be part of the linen wrappings from the interior of the canopic box. This piece measures a nice 7.25" x 3" and displays very nicely. Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, 350 - 50 B.C. For an example of similar complete box, please see MFA 98.1128 | ||
