| A magnificent Moche II effigy bottle from Peru, ca. 100 – 200 AD. This superb vessel is 7-1/2” high and features a gorgeous owl executed in wonderful detail. The enigmatic face is highly expressive, the wings are molded in high relief and detailed with crisp incising and the elongated claws seem to be reaching for the rodent on the front of the chamber. Two lizards flank the bird, watching the rodent, which appears startled. All of these are creatures associated with the Underworld and shamanic practices. In excellent condition, with strong mineral deposits. | ||
