Nazca Trophy Heads Jar
An exceptional Nazca polychrome jar from Peru, ca. 400 – 500 AD. This choice example is 6-3/4” high, 6-1/2” in diameter and features three depictions of Rayed Heads with Protruding Tongues. This motif is a symbol associated with fertility and was derived from earlier AMB representations. Vivid paint, good mineral deposits, a professionally restored stress crack.

See Kroeber “The Archaeology of Nazca, Peru”, plate 21 for similar example.
