Ancient Indo-Greek rare grey schist cosmetic palette
This would have to be one of the most beautiful cosmetic palettes on the market of its kind. This rare Indo-Greek grey schist cosmetic palette carved in very detailed high relief with a man and women in arms, the women semi-naked with buttocks exposed. The underside decorated with a very detailed lotus leaf. The quality of the carving on this palette is of museum grade, very attractive piece.

These stone palettes provide an interesting instance of Hellenistic art in the northwestern Indian subcontinent, disconnected from the Buddhist narrative to which it is usually associated in the Greco-Buddhist art of Gandhara. Comes with featured display stand.

Dating to circa 2nd-1st century BC.

Measures 9cm diameter / 16cm height on display stand.

Ex-private West Australian collection.
