Ancient Chinese Shang Dynasty large jade axe blade
A superb, rare and large Chinese Shang dynasty green jade ceremonial axe blade with remnants of red cinnabar on surface and in five attachment holes across the top.

Dating to the Shang period circa 1550-1030 BC

Measures 55cm length / 18cm height when on stand / 3mm thick at widest point. A section of the blade has been rejoined and has traces of cinnabar in the crack, an ancient crack but modern join. Overall a superb blade.

Ex-East Australia auctioneers, Sydney. Ex-Private Hong Kong collection.
