A superb intact, one handle rejoined, Attic Black-Glazed pottery Kylix with extensive root deposits. Attic pottery surpassed that of all other centres,
both in its craftsmanship and in the quality of its brilliant
orange-red clay. Whilst Athens is most famous for its
decorated ware, both black-figure and red-figure, its
potters also produced many undecorated pieces with a
black glaze. That glaze is usually shiny with a metallic
tinge.
Dating to the Classical Period, Circa 4th Century BC. Measures Diameter 24cm / height 9cm. Ex-Mckenzie auctions Perth Western Australia, previously the property of a private West Australian collector. |
