Five Procurator Coins Set from the Time of Christ.
At the time of Christ, Judaea was ruled by a series of Procurators appointed by Rome. Coponius 6-9 AD, Marcus Ambibulus 9-12 AD , Annius Rufus 12 - 15 AD He did not issue any coins , Valerius Gratus 15-26 AD and Pontius Pilate 26-36 AD.

This is a set of five coins , one coin for each of the three procurators that issued coins and 2 coins for Pontius Pilate.

1- Coponius, Roman Prefect under Augustus, 6 - 9 A.D.

Coin Description: Bronze prutah, 15.8mm, Caesarea mint.

Obverse: KAICAPOC (of Caesar), barley head curved right; .

Reverse: eight branched date palm tree bearing two bunches of dates Year 36= 6 AD.

2- Marcus Ambibulus, Roman Prefect under Augustus, 9 - 12 A.D.

Coin Description: Bronze prutah, 17.1mm , Caesarea mint.

Obverse KAICAPOC (of Caesar), barley head curved to the right; .

reverse Eight-branched date plam tree, bearing two bunches of dates year 39 = 9/10 A.D.

3- Valerius Gratus, Roman Prefect under Tiberius, 15 - 26 A.D.

Coin Description: Bronze prutah, 15.6mm, Caesarea mint, obverse KAI/CAP within a wreath; .

reverse TIB (Tiberius), two crossed cornucopia with caduceus between them , year 2 = 15 AD.

Coins four and five in this set for Pontius Pilate, Roman Prefect under Tiberius, 26 - 36 A.D.

4- Bronze Prutah, Year 16=29 AD 15.4mm.

Obverses: Three bound ears of barley, the outer two ears droop, surrounded by IOÕËÉÁ ÊÁÉCAPOC; Reverse : Libation ladle (simpulum) surrounded by TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC (of Tiberius Caesar) and date (Year 16) .

5- Obverse: Lituus surrounded by TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC (of Tiberius Caesar) .

Reverse: Date within wreath (LIZ = Year 17 = 30 C.E.). .
