ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TYET OR ISIS KNOT WOOD BRONZE EARLY 18TH DYNASTY CIRCA 1550–1458 B.C. Here you find two intact tyet symbols or Isis knot's in both bronze and wood. This symbol illustrates a knotted piece of cloth and in the New Kingdom it was clearly associated with the goddess Isis, the great magician and wife of Osiris. By this time, the tyet or Isis knot was also referred to as the "blood of Isis" and many scholars believe that it might be a cloth a woman used during menstruation. The tyet sign was considered a potent symbol of protection in the afterlife and the Book of the Dead specifies that the tyet be made of blood-red stone and placed at the deceased's neck. The wood artifact measures 5 inches and the bronze measures 6 inches. Intact! Provenance: Collected by Gustave Jéquier (1868-1946)
