| From the Cradle of civilization, a Sumerian Cuneiform Foundation / Building Cone from the reign of GUDEA of Lagash, ca. 2144 - 2124 BCE. Cone contains two columns of cuneiform text which is a royal inscription commemorating the building of a temple (Eninnu) by the famous ruler GUDEA (who ruled in the region of LAGASH in present day Southern Iraq) from 2144 - 2124 BCE. The Eninnu was built in honor of NINGIRSU, the chief god of the Lagash region and ENLIL, the chief god of the Sumerian pantheon. The Inscription on the cone reads: For NINGIRSU, mighty warrior, and ENLIL, GUDEA the ruler of LAGASH, has brought forth everything that is appropriate and built for him this Eninnu (temple.) Intact and in excellent condition. Cone is 5 1/2" long. | ||
